Peppery Yellow Peas and Kidney Beans
Kidney beans and whole yellow peas are the good sources of fiber ,lean protein,and low in fat.They also reduce cholesterol level. Most importantly they are gluten-free food.This recipe is easy to make.I have used the sweet peppery sauce to cook this recipe.Yellow peas have got a unique flavor which I love.You can get yellow peas from any Indian shop.
I have soaked yellow peas and kidney beans overnight and boiled them in the pressure cooker separately.Yellow peas took about 2 whistles to cook and kidney beans took 4 to 5 whistles.
You will need:
Half cup of whole yellow peas soaked and boiled(after soaking, peas goes larger in volume)
Half cup of red kidney beans soaked and boiled (after soaking, beans goes larger in volume)
One whole red pepper
3 large cloves
1-inch ginger root
One green chili
One teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 and a half teaspoon of coriander powder
1 teaspoon of cumin powder
Half teaspoon of garam masala
Salt to taste
Olive oil or any oil
1 teaspoon of sugar
Boil yellow peas and kidney beans until soft.I have cooked them separately in a pressure cooker because yellow peas take less time to cook than kidney beans.Yellow peas took 2 whistles to cool and kidney beans took 4 to 5 whistle to cook.Please do not use the pressure cooker if you don’t know how to use them,use a saucepan to cook them.
Cook the chopped tomatoes in the microwave for 2 minutes.Then add chopped red pepper ,ginger and grind them.
Add oil in the pan .When the oil is hot add cumin seeds and chopped garlic and chili ,stir them for few seconds.
Step 4:Now add turmeric powder, cumin and coriander powder.Cook for few seconds.
Now add the sauce .Stir it occasionally for about 13 minutes in the median heat.After that add coriander leaves and garam masala.Stir well .
Now add peas and beans ,stir them well and add one cup of water.Cover the lid and cook this for 13 minutes in medium heat.
